Reach a Hand Uganda celebrates Women’s day in all exciting edutainment Girl fest

As the world joined to celebrate the International Women’s day, Reach a hand Uganda (RAHU) celebrated the day with the first ever Girl’s festival hosted at Lugogo Hockey Grounds.

The fun filled day brought together young people, artistes, women leaders, partners, policy makers and gender equality advocates to celebrate girl and women empowerment under the theme “Gains from Equality.”

Speaking at the festival, Humphrey Nabimanya the founder of the and Team Leader of RAHU commended the attendees for the positive strides made towards women and girl empowerment,

“I thank each of you for standing with us as we celebrate the key milestones achieved in the movement to empower women and girls. We have seen, overtime that investing in girls and women has seen transformational changes, not just in their own lives but for their families, communities and the economy. Gender equality should remain our shared value and common goal in all areas.”

According to the organization, the festival is going to be annual. The girl festival is going to be a platform for young girls to discuss different issues like child marriages, teenage pregnancies, sexual harassment, and gender equality.

Eddy Kenzo was one of the artistes that excited fans at the fest

Health services like HIV/AID Testing, Male circumcision were offered free of charge. Artistes like Geo Steady, Navio, Spice Diana, Naava Grey, Eddy Kenzo, and Levixone thrilled the revelers leaving the crowd dancing to signature dance moves.  The artistes shared a stage with international musicans Micheal Franti and Swrap. The crowd was also served to games like Kwepena from Cheza.

The Festival provided a platform for partners to share their interventions, good practices and successes emerging from their work on gender equality. The grand finale of the Girl’s Festival will be held tomorrow March 12, 2019 in Kabale at the Kabale Stadium.
