Christmas at Speke Resort Munyonyo unfolded in a calm and elegant way, marked by gentle festive touches rather than loud celebration.

The atmosphere was set by sweet aromas drifting through the grounds as children eagerly spotted Father Christmas, pausing for photographs before happily running off with sweets and cookies. Soft live music floated across the resort, blending naturally with birdsong from the surrounding gardens.

For many guests visiting for the first time, the resort offered a pleasant surprise. The modern design of the Convention and Events Centre, stretching along the shores of Lake Victoria, quickly caught attention. Conversations flowed easily, touching on food, wine and football, especially the Africa Cup of Nations, reflecting the relaxed holiday mood.

The dining experience stood out as a highlight. Ugandan dishes were served alongside Indian and continental cuisine, creating a buffet that celebrated diversity without losing balance. Rather than competing, the different flavours complemented one another, mirroring the resort’s international character.

At the bar, a wide selection of wines and spirits was available. Uganda Waragi held its own comfortably next to international brands such as Black Label, Blue Label, Amarula and other popular liqueurs, offering guests both local and global choices.

The swimming pool remained a central meeting point throughout the day. It attracted sunbathers and swimmers in the afternoon and transformed into a relaxed social space in the evening, where guests shared drinks, conversations and festive greetings by the water.

The mix of visitors reflected the resort’s wide appeal. Europeans, Americans, Indians and Africans interacted freely, creating a lively but easy-going environment. One guest summed it up humorously, remarking that Uganda felt as welcoming and green as Europe.

Music from the 446 Band provided a steady and enjoyable soundtrack, adding to the mood without overpowering conversations.

The presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, alongside diplomats and holidaymakers, highlighted Speke Resort Munyonyo’s growing reputation as a venue that comfortably hosts both leisure and high-level engagements.

As night settled over Lake Victoria and lights shimmered across the water, the pace slowed further.
