According to the telecom’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Vim Vanhelleputte, the promotion was aimed at getting customers to use the digital airtime loading platforms ahead of the Uganda Commision Commissions plans to ban the use of airtime scratch cards on July 31, 2018.

“Before we started the promotion, only 50% of our customers were using Mobile Money or other digital platforms to load airtime. We now have over 80%,” Vanhelleputte added.

The CEO has implored customers to embrace digital recharge options when the scratch cards are phased out.

“We have three methods of airtime recharge that our customers will use; load airtime from their Mobile Money, load via EasyLoad and sharing airtime with each other via Me2U.”

None of the above methods including the mobile money option will be affected by the 1% mobile money tax.

Through the MoMo Nyabo promotion that ran from May 14 to July 15, 2018, a total of 24 brand new Toyota Premios were given out to winners.

Other prizes included Samsung Flatscreens, daily Mobile Money worth Shs20,000, school fees worth Shs500,000 to ten weekly winners and Ka Fit smartphones.
