Singer Maro has spoken candidly about battling depression while living in Germany, revealing that going to the gym became one of the biggest turning points in helping him rebuild his mental strength.
The “Anjagala” hitmaker, whose real name is Ronald Magada, said fitness helped him regain focus and emotional stability during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
Speaking during a YouTube interview, Maro explained that working out became more than just physical training, saying it gave him space to clear his mind and reflect on life. He said that he travelled to Germany with his wife and child during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When I started taking good care of myself, I decided to take depression to the gym. The gym helps a lot in overcoming depression. It’s a place where you rest your mind,” he said.
According to the singer, spending time lifting weights helped him redirect his thoughts away from negativity and focus more on personal growth and self-improvement.
“When you sit on the bench lifting weights, your thoughts travel far and you begin to reflect on what you can accomplish and what you can’t. It helps your mind open up,” Maro added.
He noted that the quiet moments between workouts often became a source of inspiration, helping him rediscover confidence, clarity and purpose.
