Singer Jose Chameleone, real name Joseph Mayanja, has agreed to pay $2,000 (about Shs7.5 million) every month in child support as part of a divorce settlement with his estranged wife, Daniella Atim.
The agreement was reached after months of court-ordered mediation before Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga of the High Court.
It’s not final yet – Justice Kajuga still needs to sign off for it to become binding. Under the agreement, Chameleone will pay Atim $2,000, about Shs 7.5 million, every month for the upkeep of their five children.
Atim gets custody of the children – Abba, Alpha, Amma, Alba, and Xara Mayanja, while Chameleone gets visitation rights.
The sharing of marital property wasn’t settled in mediation and will be decided later by the Family Division of the High Court.
The couple has lived apart for over five years since Atim moved to the US. Atim filed for divorce, accusing Chameleone of desertion, adultery, and cruelty. She said his lack of love and support had ended the marriage beyond repair.
Chameleone attended the mediation with lawyer Roberts Friday Kagoro, while Atim was represented by Emmanuel Wamimbi. The pair married in June 2008 at St James Catholic Parish in Kampala.
