Since Tuesday, Arsenal fans in Uganda, like those around the world, have been on the streets, in workplaces, and in bars celebrating their team’s 2025/26 Premier League title win after 22 years.
The fans, wearing jerseys, have held processions through different streets while chanting slogans and singing songs.
One Arsenal fan, Isaac Rubangakene, who is facing charges over the Bank of Uganda laptops theft, did not want to miss the celebration. When he appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa on Wednesday, Rubangakene came wearing his Arsenal jersey.
He was among four new suspects charged over the May 3, 2026 break-in and theft at the Bank of Uganda headquarters. This brought the total number of accused in the case to 12.
All the new suspects — Rubangakene, Boaz Michael Kule, Ramathan Kabuya alias Rama, 27, and Jorem Jude Oedo, 43 — denied the charges.
Prosecution contends they stole six laptop computers belonging to the central bank — Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G7IML and HP EliteBook devices valued at Shs35.4 million.
Court documents show the accused are also charged with receiving and retaining stolen property. Those previously charged include Sgt Joseph Amone and Police Constables Wilson Ouma, Thomas Omach, Shafic Mungusho, and Brian Oryono, all attached to the Directorate of Counter Terrorism Tactical Unit and deployed at the Bank of Uganda headquarters.
Also charged are Alex Onduri and Solomon Orach, guards with Ultimate Security Ltd, and Morish Ocen, a guard employed by Saracen Uganda Limited.
The matter was adjourned to May 29 for mention of the case.
