Nick Vujic is an internationally renowned motivational speaker and evangelist from Australia. He was born without arms or legs due to Tetra-Amelia syndrome, a rare condition that causes the absence of all four limbs.
When Nick was born, his parents were shocked. His mother couldn’t bring herself to hold him at first, and his father was overwhelmed with grief and fear for his son’s future. That didn’t last long. His parents quickly became his biggest supporters and raised him with strong faith and determination.
Now 43, Vujic is married with four children. Speaking about his childhood, he said he was born in Australia with no medical explanation for his condition.
His parents had ultrasound scans while he was in the womb but had no idea he would be born with a disability.
“The doctors were shocked when I was born. My parents cried because they didn’t know what I would look like,” Vujic recalled.
“I had no arms, no legs, but a little foot. With this little foot, I learned to walk, jump, swim, and write. I have two toes.”
He credits his parents’ words for giving him hope early on.
“When my parents told me, ‘Nick, we love you. No one has a plan for you, but it’s going to be okay,’ that was the beginning of hope.”
Vujic often speaks about inclusion for people with disabilities.
“The world still has so much to learn about true inclusion for PWDs. Regardless of the pain you’re going through, never isolate yourself or give up just because you can’t do what other people do.”
Why is he in Uganda?
Vujic is in Uganda to headline the “Champions Arise Africa” conference today at Lugogo Hockey Grounds. His goal is to preach the gospel, share his story of faith and resilience, and empower young people.
Alongside the main conference, Vujic and his team have already visited local church communities, including Point of Grace Church in Luwero, for ministry and outreach.
