As the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda wanes, Dr. Rhoda Wanyenze, Dean of Makerere School of Public Health has said that the third wave of COVID-9 in Uganda is very close after a surge in the numbers of people infected with the deadly virus.

Dr Wanyenze said that the threat of the third wave is imminent.

“We see the numbers begining to shoot up slightly, even though things are abit stable in Kampala and Wakiso,” said Dr Wanyenze.

A fortnight ago, Ugandan scientists warned that Uganda is set to experience a more aggressive third wave of COVID-19 pandemic if the public violates the set Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) in the face of limited vaccines.

They stated that the third wave will be more lethal than the previous two waves as it is likely to peak at 4,000 cases per day, which is two times higher than the second wave.
