Wait still on for ‘Nabbanja money’ as new date is set

Government has set new date to start the mobile money distribution of covid-19 relief package. The distribution of the cash was scheduled to kick off today July 6.

According to our sources, the launch of the distribution of the package will be held this week on Thursday, July 8. Last week cabinet approved Shs53 billion as package for over 500, 000 vulnerable groups with each family receiving Shs100000.

Among the identified groups that are set to benefit from the covid relief cash include; barmen, DJs, barmaids, waiters, waitresses,  bouncers, gym and restaurant workers, food vendors in tax, bus parks and arcades, musicians, comedians, producers, promoters, salon and massage parlour employees, teachers and support staff in in both government and private schools, car washers, slum dwellers, street vendors, shoe shiners, orphans and vulnerable children among other groups.

Earlier on today, the Deputy Secretary to the Treasury Patrick Ocailap held a press conference where he confirmed several adjustments in the budget to cater for COVID-19 emergencies and release of funds for Quarter One FY 2021/2022.

Ocailap said Funds for Quarter One FY 2021/2022 will only be released to votes where the Accounting Officers appointed have submitted their acceptance letters and their performance contracts duly countersigned.
