Police have arrested 12 individuals for selling fake tickets to the #CHAN2024 match between Uganda Cranes and South Africa this evening at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Speaking to journalists during the weekly press briefing at Naguru, Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the group was arrested over the weekend.

“There are people who have tried to sell fake CHAN tickets, and some have been caught. We arrested 12 individuals. We do not want you to fall victim by attempting to buy any ticket other than online,” Kituuma said.

Last week, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 in Uganda urged football fans to buy tickets exclusively through online platforms.

LOC Communications Chairperson, Dr Dennis Mugimba, said all physical tickets currently in circulation are fake. He explained that the ticketing system at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, detects counterfeit and duplicate tickets.

He also cautioned fans against sharing their e-tickets and advised those printing tickets from the online portal to ensure high-quality prints so that all features are clearly visible.

Meanwhile, tickets for the Uganda vs South Africa game this evening are sold out. Uganda need just a point to qualify for the knockout stage, while South Africa must win all three points.
