The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has suspended MTN Omondi Stadium’s approval to host night matches following a floodlight failure that disrupted KCCA FC’s Uganda Premier League match against UPDF FC on Thursday.
The suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in place until the stadium’s lighting system is fixed, a fresh inspection is conducted and the federation issues written clearance.
In a letter to KCCA FC Chief Executive Officer, FUFA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Ampaire Sheba Ronah said the stadium no longer met the conditions under which it had been cleared to host matches under floodlights.
FUFA had approved the Lugogo-based stadium for night matches on 22 September 2026, following an earlier rejection over concerns that its lighting system did not meet the required standards.
The federation said the suspension was in line with the 2026 FUFA Men’s Club Licensing Regulations, which allow it to conduct further inspections and withdraw approval if a facility no longer meets the conditions for which it was cleared.
The decision means all matches previously scheduled to kick off under floodlights at Omondi Stadium will now start at 4pm.
KCCA FC has been directed to coordinate with the Uganda Premier League Secretariat to reschedule the affected fixtures.
The suspension follows Thursday’s match between KCCA FC and UPDF FC, which was abandoned in the eighth minute after the stadium’s floodlights failed, raising questions about the facility’s readiness to host evening fixtures.
