Police in Katwe have foiled an attempted armed robbery at a fuel station in Makindye Division, arresting three suspects before the crime could be carried out.
The targeted site was Nesta Petrol Station, located along Salaama Road in Salaama Parish. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, officers acted on intelligence received on Sunday, April 26, 2026, about a planned attack.
Police moved quickly to the scene, where they intercepted and arrested three individuals believed to be behind the plot. Four pangas were recovered during the operation. The suspects are currently being held as investigations continue.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about theft and violent crime in the country. Data from the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2025 shows that 56,360 theft cases were recorded last year, including 7,364 involving cash.
Authorities also reported 875 motor vehicle thefts—down by 12.4% from 2024—with 621 vehicles recovered.
Despite these recoveries, the report indicates that criminals stole property worth about Shs2.5 trillion, with only a small fraction—around Shs57 billion—successfully recovered.
