Anita Rukundo Tayebwa, the wife of outgoing Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, has been appointed Honorary Consul of The Bahamas in Uganda.
The appointment was announced by Ambassador and Director General at Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Isa Ali, who said the decision followed a meeting between Anita Tayebwa and Bahamian officials during the 2024 G77 and Non-Aligned Movement summits hosted in Uganda.
According to Ambassador Ali, the appointment reflects the growing diplomatic and economic ties between Uganda and The Bahamas. He noted that Anita Tayebwa’s new role is expected to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas of trade, investment and international relations.
As Honorary Consul, Anita Tayebwa will serve as an unpaid, part-time diplomatic representative of The Bahamas in Uganda. Her responsibilities will include promoting bilateral relations, supporting citizens of The Bahamas in Uganda and helping to create stronger links between the two nations.
