The body of Timothy Muganzi Magambo arrived in Uganda early Tuesday morning ahead of his burial in Masindi this week.
Timothy, son of Criminal Investigations Directorate boss Tom Magambo Rwabudongo, was received at Entebbe International Airport at about 2am. He will be buried on Thursday at 2pm in Kisarabwire village, 2km from Masindi Municipality.
He drowned on Saturday, 16 May 2026, while swimming off Long Island in New York. US media reported that Timothy was with six others crossing from Wades Beach to Shell Beach when he became separated from the group.

He later turned back towards Wades Beach, but his friends noticed he was missing and alerted police.
Rescuers found him floating face down several hundred yards from where he was last seen. Bystanders pulled him from the water and tried to revive him before he was rushed to South Shore University Hospital. He was pronounced dead from drowning-related injuries.

A Holy Mass will be held at 9am on Wednesday at Mbuya Catholic Parish. The body will then be taken to the family home in Kisarabwire for an overnight vigil before burial.
