A 32-year-old businesswoman in Kakumiro District has been killed in a violent home invasion in which armed attackers also stole millions of shillings.

The deceased, identified as Alice Natukunda, was attacked on Saturday night at her home in Kisiita East Cell.

According to preliminary police reports, a group of masked men armed with machetes forced their way into her house at around 9pm and demanded money.

When she allegedly refused to surrender cash, the attackers turned violent, killing her at the scene.

Police say the assailants also threatened other people in the house, including her husband, Justus Tugumisirize, warning them not to raise an alarm during the attack.

The attackers then fled with about Shs 17.5 million in cash before disappearing from the area.

Tugumisirize later reported the incident to police, who responded to the scene and launched investigations into the killing and robbery.

Albertine region police spokesperson Julius Hakiza confirmed the incident, saying specialised detectives, including the Flying Squad, have been deployed to track down the suspects.

Security agencies say efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible.
