Minister Balaam Barugahara has announced that DNA samples collected in the paternity investigation involving the late Kadongo Kamu legend Paul Job Kafeero will be sent to either South Africa or the United Kingdom for independent confirmatory testing.
The decision follows widespread debate over the initial DNA results, which found that only four of the 25 individuals who claimed to be Kafeero’s biological children were genetically related to the late singer.
The paternity investigation was initiated after years of disagreements within Kafeero’s family over the identity of his biological children. In a bid to resolve the long-running dispute, Kafeero’s remains were exhumed to obtain DNA samples for scientific testing.
The results, which were presented last week during a meeting attended by family members and friends at the Uganda Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, confirmed that only Kafeero Bendicto, Kafeero Simon Peter, Kafeero Thomas and Nagawa Elizabeth are the late musician’s biological children.
However, the findings have been strongly contested by some of those who tested negative, as well as sections of the public, prompting calls for an independent verification of the results.
In a statement shared on social media, Barugahara said an agreement had been reached to subject the samples to a second round of testing at an overseas laboratory.
“Mama Phina, Gen. Ssejusa and many others, with the help of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, we shall send the samples to South Africa or the UK for a confirmatory test, and that will be done soon. Thank you for your attention to this Kafeero matter,” he wrote.
