Among the early contenders are Sebaale Kato, reigning champion- David Plenderleith, Jimmy Mugerwa, Gift Shoko, Francis Nshekanabo, John Byabagambi, Alex Guma, Maxie Muwonge, Dancan Kaggwa and Philip Mutebi.

Saturday’s tournament will accommodate both Serena 63 members and non-members, with prizes across various categories.

However, golfers hoping to compete for the main season prizes must have completed a minimum of six rounds per quarter to qualify for quarterly rewards, and at least 18 rounds overall to remain eligible for the grand prizes.

Lake Victoria Serena Golf Director- Theo Van Rooyen said the club is ready to host the first major event of the season.

“We are looking forward to welcoming golfers for the first quarterly tournament of the year. The course is in good condition and we are ready to deliver a memorable experience for all participants,” Van Rooyen said.

Annette Nakiyaga, the I&M Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, said the bank was pleased with the response the series has received since its return.

“We are excited to see the Serena 63 Golf Series back on the calendar and with a high level of interest from the golfing fraternity. This is a very good motivation for us to continue investing in platforms that bring people together through the game, but at the same time a very clear indicator that the Serena 63 Golf Series is an amazing tournament,” Nakiyaga said.

Participation in the series remains open to both club members and non-members, at a one-time registration fee of Shs63,000 (about USD 35). The Serena 63 Golf Series derives its name from the current course record of 63, set by Kenyan star golfer- Dizmas Ndugala, during the third round of the 2019 Uganda Golf Open at the same facility.
