UBITEB-accredited courses available include Certificates in Hotel and Institutional Catering, Clearing and Forwarding, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and that of Journalism and Media Studies. The UBITEB courses are the gateway to critical skills training for Ugandans especially in vocational and practical professions, critical to the country’s economic transformation.

“We have identified a pressing issue. Many students’ futures are compromised by financial hurdles or an educational emphasis on grades over competencies at O & A levels,” VU officials said on their inspiration behind awarding the courses.

According to Victoria University, these programmes not only prepare students for immediate employment but also offer pathways to further education, including diploma and degree courses.

The university says the courses are also ideal for university graduates seeking to enhance their skill set.

“Some students graduate from certain universities, with no skills to navigate the world of work. To address this, we are launching highly practical and hands-on UBTEB-accredited certificate programmes focused on skill development and practical knowledge,” VU Admission officials say.

The courses are run for a two-year period with each costing Shs550,000. To enrol, one needs an application fee of Shs50,000. Other costs include facility fee of Shs50,000, library fee of Shs20,000, Internet of Shs20,000 and guild fee of Shs15,000.
