Ugandan singer Joshua Baraka has challenged the belief that formal education is the only path to success in the music industry, saying talent, passion and self-improvement often matter just as much.
Speaking on the Grab a Coffee podcast, the fast-rising artist said many musicians and producers can sharpen their skills through online learning platforms without necessarily enrolling in music schools.
Baraka noted that resources such as YouTube have made it easier than ever for aspiring creatives to learn, practise and improve their craft from anywhere.
“You don’t really need formal training to start. People can use platforms like YouTube to get guidance and become better at what they do. Sometimes people are simply naturally gifted at certain things,” he said.
The singer believes every individual has a unique talent or strength, but many never discover or nurture it to its full potential.
According to Baraka, success often begins with identifying that natural ability and putting in the effort to develop it.
“As long as the foundation is there, you can keep improving. The challenge is that many people do not know what their gift is,” he said.
Baraka’s comments come at a time when he continues to cement his place among Uganda’s most exciting young music stars. Known for his songwriting ability and unique sound, he has built a growing fan base and earned recognition as one of the country’s brightest musical talents.
