The Ruparelia Group has bolstered Rotary International’s Maternal Village Ambulance Project with the donation of a fully equipped $3000 tricycle ambulance to save pregnant mothers in rural Uganda.

The donation was made as Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja flagged off the first 50 tricycle village ambulances donated by Rotary District 9214 at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Nabbanja lauded Rotarians for offering voluntary services to the under previleged in various service delivery and quality health care initiatives.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, who was inducted a  Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Kiwatule last October, was recognised by the Rotary Club of Uganda and Tanzania for changing people’s lives.

The tricycle ambulances will enhance timely referral of mothers and newly born babies in hard to reach places.

Dr Jennifer Jones, the Rotary International President launched the tricycle ambulance project and noted that it is a pilot project targeting Wakiso, Kabarole and Kabale. It will be rolled out in the entire country depending on the availability of resources.

She added that the tricycles will be registered under the Ministry of health and will be situated at the health center 111s where most martarnal mortality cases are reported.

It is not the first time the Ruparelia Foundation is donating towards Rotary causes. Last July, Sudhir made a donation of an ambulance to the Rotary Club of Nsangi and Shs10m to go towards the maternity ward of the hospital.

He also donated Shs10m towards Rotary’s efforts for the cancer ward at Nsambya Hospital.

To date the Ruparelia Foundation has benefited more than 700 charitable causes in the country.
