At just 28 years old, Kibirige Kassim, a native of Mutungo Zone 4 in Nakawa, is setting his sights on Parliament. In an exclusive interview, the youthful aspirant shared his story, motivations, and vision as he officially declared his intention to contest for the Nakawa East Constituency parliamentary seat on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket. The position is currently held by Ronald Balimwezo, who is also a member of NUP.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management at Victoria University, Kassim says his decision to step into politics is driven by service, not ambition.

“I’m standing to serve my community—creating jobs, improving healthcare, enhancing the education sector, and uplifting the welfare of Nakawa East residents,” he explains with conviction. “I want to contribute to the development of our area and ensure our voices are heard in Parliament.”

Why NUP?

For Kassim, NUP is more than just a political party; it is a cause he deeply identifies with.

“I’m a proud member of the National Unity Platform because I believe in its mission to bring about meaningful change and hold government accountable,” he says. “NUP’s commitment to justice, equality, and good governance resonates with me. The struggle for change requires dedication and perseverance, and I’m honoured to be part of that journey.”

While he acknowledges the efforts of other political organisations, Kassim insists his values align best with NUP’s manifesto, which he believes speaks directly to the needs of Nakawa East.

What Sets Him Apart?

When asked why voters should trust him with their mandate, Kassim points to his local roots, leadership skills, and a personal connection with the constituency.

“I have a deep understanding of the community’s needs. My leadership skills, combined with my education, make me a strong candidate,” he says. “Most importantly, I am committed to transparency, accountability, and working tirelessly for Nakawa East.”

His Vision for Nakawa East

Kassim promises to bring a “deep understanding of local issues, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to policies that benefit both the constituency and the nation” to Parliament.

His legislative priorities include:

Economic growth and job creation

Strengthening education systems

Improving healthcare access

Promoting social welfare programmes

A Son of the Soil’s Appeal to Voters

Kassim closes his appeal with a message rooted in his identity and connection to Nakawa East.

“I’m a true son of the soil. I understand our daily challenges, and I’m dedicated to making a real difference,” he passionately asserts. “My vision is for a prosperous, united, and developed Nakawa East—where every resident has opportunities to thrive.”
