South African-based Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan and her children have officially been declared the beneficiaries of the estate of her late ex-husband, businessman Ivan Ssemwanga, following a Family Court ruling that brings a years-long legal dispute to an end.

The decision followed an amicable agreement between Zari and Ivan Ssemwanga’s brothers over the administration of the estate. The court endorsed the settlement, confirming that the estate will be managed for the benefit of Ivan’s children, with Zari playing a custodial role.

Earlier this week, Zari attended the court session alongside two of her sons to receive the ruling, marking the conclusion of a case that has been before the courts for several years.

The settlement ends a prolonged disagreement that arose after Ivan Ssemwanga’s death in 2017. Following his passing, his family and Zari became involved in a dispute over the management and ownership of his assets.

Ivan, who was widely known for his lavish lifestyle, died at Steve Biko Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, after suffering heart complications. Before his death, he had built a business empire that included several educational institutions in South Africa.

As part of the court-approved arrangement, Pinto Ntale, the eldest son of Ivan Ssemwanga and Zari Hassan, was recognised as the official heir to his father’s estate.

Zari Hassan will continue overseeing the family’s assets while preparing her sons to eventually take over the management of the businesses and other investments left behind by their father.
