The remains of legendary musician Prince Paul Kafeero have been exhumed for DNA testing to resolve a paternity dispute that has lasted over 20 years.
Outgoing Youth and Children Affairs Minister Balaam Barugahara confirmed the exhumation happened this morning. The move aims to settle claims by more than 20 young people who say the late singer fathered them.
A team of pathologists led by Assistant Inspector General of Police Dr. Moses Byaruhanga carried out the exhumation and collected samples. The process followed a court order and standard forensic procedures.
The samples will be tested at the Government Analytical Laboratory and the Uganda Police Forensic Laboratory. Results are expected to give conclusive answers on the paternity claims.
“I wish to thank the Court, the family members, Assistant Inspector General of Police Dr. Byaruhanga and his team, and the Uganda Police Force for making this important process possible,” Balaam said.
“I am also grateful to have fully facilitated this exercise in the interest of justice, truth, and family harmony.”
The exhumation marks a major step in settling a family dispute that has drawn public attention for two decades.
