Police in Mukono District have arrested a man suspected of masterminding a string of motorcycle robberies targeting boda boda riders in Kasawo and surrounding areas.
The suspect, identified as Julius Kyeyune, was arrested on 20 June 2026 during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Nagalama Police in Kakira Village, Kasawo Sub-county.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said preliminary investigations indicate that Kyeyune allegedly lured boda boda riders by pretending to be an ordinary passenger travelling to Kasawo.
According to police, once the riders reached the area, the suspect would reportedly direct them to isolated locations near the vast sugarcane plantations in Kakira Village, where he would rob them of their motorcycles.

Following the arrest, detectives searched the suspect’s home and recovered several items believed to be linked to the criminal activities.
Among the exhibits recovered were housebreaking tools, including metal bars, cutters and pangas, as well as motorcycle spare parts and other suspected burglary equipment.
Police also recovered a motorcycle number plate, UGB 722Q, believed to belong to an unidentified motorcycle, helmets and metal materials suspected to have been used to manufacture forged number plates.

Other items recovered included two AK-47 rifle cartridges, several smartphones, old motorcycle inner tubes, jackets and two driving permits.
Kawala said all the recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence to support ongoing investigations.
Police are now pursuing other suspects believed to have worked with Kyeyune in carrying out the robberies.
