Former Kampala Central Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko has claimed that former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among is battling serious health complications.
Speaking during a live session on TikTok, Nsereko alleged that Among is suffering from blood clots in her legs, leaving both limbs badly swollen and making it difficult for her to move.
His claims come weeks after Among was reportedly placed under house arrest at her Nakasero residence on the orders of President Yoweri Museveni as security agencies intensified investigations into allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
Earlier this month, the security detail guarding Among’s residence changed after Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers who had been deployed there withdrew. They were replaced by officers from the Presidential Guard Police and the Counter-Terrorism Directorate.
The change followed a major security operation that began on 16 May, when heavily armed UPDF soldiers raided Among’s residences, disarmed her security personnel and paved the way for detectives from the Police Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) to conduct extensive searches.
Investigators searched her properties in Nakasero and Ntinda in Kampala, as well as her under-construction home in Kigo, Wakiso District, as part of the ongoing corruption probe.
During the operation at the Kigo property, investigators recovered a Rolls-Royce Cullinan valued at more than Shs3.4 billion, alongside several Range Rovers. The vehicles were later transported to Police headquarters in Naguru for further investigations.
The probe also extended to Bukedea District, where security teams searched properties linked to some of Among’s relatives. Since the operation, several senior Parliament officials have reportedly recorded statements with investigators as the inquiry continues.
