Ugandans are eagerly preparing for the must-win game against Comoros this Sunday at Namboole and in the middle of the excitement, it is easy to lose oneself and throw caution to the wind. Keep in mind though that the game starts at 5pm; and is likely to end just a few minutes to 7pm. There is an obvious security threat—what with Kifeesi around– -so to help you keep safe Matooke Republic put together a guide to help you keep safe before, during and after the game.

Buy your ticket now
Fufa has said tickets will not be sold at the stadium, which means if you haven’t bought yours yet, the best time to buy it is now to avoid getting turned back at the gates or worse getting conned because there are fake tickets that you can be sure will surface on the day of the game.

Get to the stadium early
It is best that you report at least four hours before the kick-off, as this will help you to avoid the long queues that are normally responsible for the commotion as the games edges closer to kick-off. The other great thing about going early is that you choose the best seat in your section.

Obey all security rules
While we all acknowledge that security checks can sometimes feel or even be intrusive, the truth is that they are for your own good. Since these take only a few seconds of your time most times, subject yourself to the security officers’ orders while getting in, around or out of the stadium.

Leave out smart phones
Many of the thieves that show up primarily target smartphones, so, however tempting it might be for you to take selfies while in the stadium, it is best that you leave your expensive smart phones and other valuables in a safe place (if not at home) considering that the game will end after dark.

Leave your car at home
Public transport can be a pain, but a few hours spent in a taxi or the relative discomfort of a boda boda is much less painful than having to replace stolen car lights and side mirrors. In any case, by not driving you will help to reduce the traffic jam. There’s safety in numbers going to the game with friends is not only guaranteed to make the experience a lot more fun, it also comes with a huge security benefit; because you are less likely to be attacked if in a group, while having numbers means there is someone that has got your back all the time.

Choose appropriate dress
Based on what the weather is like, choose clothing that is most appropriate, but while also keeping an eye on the possibility of emergencies. In that cases, closed shoes might be a smarter option in case there was some sort of commotion, while jeans should trump short skirts.
